TODAY'S TOP STORIES Funds allocated for nursing training By KATHY QUINN THOMAS Rochester Business Journal January 30, 2003 To help alleviate the nursing shortage, RochesterWorks! has dedicated $500,000 to help retrain workers for nursing and other health care careers. Nursing students can obtain from $5,000 to $10,000 each. Up to $5,000 a person is available for training in other medical areas. "There is a vital need in our area for health care workers, particularly nurses," said Mathew Hurlbutt, executive director of RochesterWorks! "To target this critical demand, we will dedicate almost $500,000 to help people who have lost jobs retrain for new careers in health care." Funding for the program, provided through the Workforce Investment Act, is expected to help approximately 100 local job seekers enter training for certified nursing assistants, LPNs, RNs, medical secretaries and medical billing and coding clerks, dental assisting, addictions counseling, health administration, medical records and patient care technology.
