1:45 – 2:30Local Board WIA State-Level Funded Project Report Out: Finger Lakes WIB’s Career Mapping in the Biotech and Infotonics Industry

Tom Hadlick, Syracuse University’s School of Education, and Karen Springmeier, Finger Lakes WIB Director, will present on the progress made to map the careers ladders in these emerging sectors. This project is leveraging WIA State-Level funds to identified foundational skill standards through a job analysis process. This data will be combined with information gathered through focus groups, site visits, surveys, document analysis and interviews to create a schematic of the career ladders for the targeted industries. The team will also prepare recommendations on steps to be taken by secondary schools to re-align curricula in the science, math, and technology areas.

 
2:45 – 3:00Disability Program Navigators: A Federal-State-Local Partnership Pilot Project

Dan Moser will present on this grant which leveraged WIA State-Level funds to match a federal grant. Sixteen local projects were funded. The presentation will cover a review of the grant objectives and how utilization of these DPNs will strengthen the employment outcomes for individuals with disabilities.
