| SUBJECT: | REVISED: Extension of Assistance to Local Areas with the Costs of Interpretive Services for One-Stop Customers with Limited English Proficiency |
| Purpose: | To advise Local Areas of Workforce Development and Training’s (WDT’s) decision regarding assistance to Local Areas with the cost of providing interpretive services to their customers with limited proficiency in the English language |
| Background: | Technical Advisory #04-14, issued August 9, 2004, offered to assist Local Areas in meeting the interpretive services needs of their customers with limited English proficiency, by providing access to telephonic interpretation services in approximately 170 languages through Language Services Associates. Local Areas were required to apply for this assistance and comply with certain conditions regarding WDT’s assumption of the costs. WDT assumed the cost of this service on a one-year demonstration basis, ending September 30, 2005.
This revision extends WDT’s commitment to cover the costs of these services through June 30, 2008. |
| Action: | Local Areas already using Language Services Associates are not required to submit an additional application to continue these services. WDT will automatically provide the extension of covered costs. The Local Areas are, however, required to abide by the conditions outlined in TA #04-14, http://www.workforcenewyork.org/ta/ta04-14.htm, when accessing interpretative services through Language Services Associates. |
